Three Pakistanis Play In World's Biggest Tekken Event

Three Pakistanis play in World’s biggest Tekken event

In case you are new to this, we’ll start off with giving you an idea of how big the event actually was. The Tekken World Tour is organized officially by Bandai Namco, the team behind the Tekken franchise and the road to the finals actually started back in April and went on throughout the year all over the globe including one in our very own Lahore, Pakistan.

The Top 19 ranked players from the tour were assembled while about 256 more were given the chance to earn the one remaining spot through the Last Chance Qualifier. Now it is with immense pride that we say that amongst these it was our Pakistani prodigy Bilal Ilyas that took the final spot winning 9 and losing just 1 in the final pool. He joined the two other Pakistanis Arslan Ash and Awais Hani and 17 other players from around the world in the Tekken World Tour Finals.

Now the tournament wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies for us and the first upset came in the very first group where Arlsan Ash came at the last place while tournament-favorite Knee was on top and Ulsan came second. Unfortunately things weren’t too bright for the other two Pakistanis as Bilal came in 4th place while Awais came 3rd just missing qualification to the knockouts by a thread.

The Top 8 then came on and even though no Pakistani player made it to this stage it was still pretty intense to watch as a neutral spectator. This is where we expected Knee to take it home but Chikurin had other plans. Beating both Knee and ULSAN it was CHIKURIN who took the crown AND the prize-money.

Now even though the trophy did not come home, there is always next year and with our established players and new talent emerging every now and then, it’s never too much to expect. TWT 2020, watch out, Pakistan is coming back stronger than ever!
